10-15 min

Complete enrollment forms, review contract, and pay installation fee if applicable.

2

Device Installation

45-60 min

Technician installs the device, connecting it to your vehicle's ignition system.

3

Training & Practice

15-20 min

Learn how to use the device properly and practice providing breath samples.

4

Final Setup

5-10 min

Device is calibrated, settings confirmed, and you receive documentation.

How the Device Is Installed

The technician will connect the IID to your vehicle's electrical system. This is a non-invasive process that doesn't permanently modify your car.

What gets connected:

  • • Handset (the part you blow into) mounted on dashboard or near steering column
  • • Wiring connected to ignition system
  • • Camera (if required by your state) pointed at driver's face
  • • GPS unit (if required)

What doesn't change:

  • • No permanent modifications to your vehicle
  • • Device can be removed cleanly when requirement ends
  • • Normal vehicle operation otherwise unchanged

Training: Learning to Use the Device

Before you leave, the technician will train you on proper device use. Pay attention— improper technique can cause failed tests.

You'll learn:

  • Proper breathing technique (steady blow, not too hard)
  • How to handle rolling retests while driving
  • What the different beeps and lights mean
  • What to do if you fail a test

Practice tests:

  • Multiple practice blows until comfortable
  • Practice starting the car with the device
  • Questions answered before you leave

Important Things to Know

Don't drink before installation

You'll need to provide a clean breath sample during setup. Any alcohol in your system could cause problems.

Bring your own vehicle

You can't install an IID on a rental or borrowed car without owner permission. The vehicle registration must match or have authorization.

Plan for the full time

Installation can take up to 2 hours. Don't schedule anything immediately after your appointment.

Ask questions

This is your chance to learn how to use the device properly. Don't leave until you understand everything.

After Installation

What you'll receive:

  • • Proof of installation certificate (for court/DMV)
  • • User manual for the device
  • • Contact information for support
  • • First calibration appointment date

Next steps:

  • • Submit installation proof to court/DMV within required timeframe
  • • Schedule or confirm your first calibration (usually 30-60 days)
  • • Download the provider's mobile app
  • • Save the support number in your phone
